| Thank you for your interest in the Mental Health Awareness programme for employers in the Wear Valley region. The objective of the programme is to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to the stigma and discrimination often associated with mental illness. This programme has been specifically designed to develop skills among local employers to tackle mental health issues in the workplace. On completing the workshop, participants will be able to: § Deal appropriately with matters concerning mental health § Identify real and perceived barriers to employing and retaining individuals with mental health related problems § Have a greater awareness of the signs and symptoms of mental health problems § Explain their rights and responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act § Recognise sensitivity and confidentiality issues in sharing of information between employers and employees § Identify local statutory support i.e. Health and Social Care Mental Health Services § Recognise that employment is a significant part of the recovery process The dates and locations scheduled for the training are as follows:
