Swinging into the Movies

Twenty four local people who before they joined Lindy Jazz had never previously danced in their life have been picked by Mammoth Screens, a northeast TV Production Company, to star alongside Robson Green & Kevin Whately in a 2 hour period drama to be screened on ITV in November.

These people are not professional dancers, just ordinary busy people who have taken time out to relax, get fit, and enjoy learning how to dance without any thoughts that this may lead to personal fame.  However, they have found themselves catapulted into TV stardom.  Their role in the film was to help recreate the romance and style of the 1930s dance halls.  This is what Lindy Jazz dancers do every week in Durham, Stanley and Newcastle as they teach the swing dances such as Lindy Hop & Charleston.

In another first for Lindy Jazz they were featured on Tuesday’s (13.4.10) BBC Two’s Daily Politics Programme in the lead up the General Election.

Dance teacher and director of Lindy Jazz , Joo Lee Stock spoke live on air to call for support for organisations and businesses that encourage healthy living as this should lead to lower NHS bills as people get healthier.
