Hairdressing

Hairdressing is a fashionable, creative and exciting industry. You will meet lots of new people and need plenty of energy and enthusiasm to succeed in this fast moving creative profession.


Practical hairdressing training will take place by working in a local hairdressing salon along with day release at our training salon in Chester le Street to cover the theory of hairdressing and to practice and develop your hairdressing skills.


An exciting mix of practical and theory skills will give you the opportunity to work on “real clients” with a structured training plan and learning targets suitable to your pace and level of ability.

 

Taking part in Hairdressing Competitions will develop your creative skills. Take a look at the gallery on our web site for some of the creative and fantasy styles.

 

By working in a salon your employer will provide you with training in practical hairdressing skills and help you to develop your communication skills by meeting clients.

 

As you progress with your apprenticeship, your tutor will keep track of your progress and ensure you stay on target to complete your apprenticeship in a timescale suited to you.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Formal qualifications are not required for this apprenticeship. However, practical and creative skills and the ability to communicate with people are important to be a successful stylist.

A hairdressing apprenticeship is hard work and we will expect dedication, commitment, good attendance and time keeping from you.

 

You will learn the following skills:

Apprenticeships (NVQ level 2 in Hairdressing)

You will learn how to style, perm and put hair up, colour and finish hair and how to promote products and services to clients. You will also learn basic cutting techniques which you can develop further . Reception duties, linked with advising and consulting with clients, are all skills you will gain during your apprenticeship.

 

To enhance your skills for life, if necessary you will improve on your numeracy and communication skills to Level 1 and complete an Employment Rights and Responsibilities workbook.

 

Upon successful completion of your Hairdressing Apprenticeship, providing you have enthusiasm and the right skills, you may wish to progress to an Advanced Hairdressing Apprenticeship.

Advanced Apprenticeships (NVQ level 3 in Hairdressing)

Enhancing your hairdressing skills to an advanced level will enable you to achieve a variety of creative looks, colour hair and correct hair colour using a variety of techniques and provide in depth client consultation . Also learning a combination of cutting techniques to enhance your skills . There are many optional units to choose from at Advanced level: Competition Work, Promotional Activities, Long hair work, Colour Correction, Perming, Extensions and Develop Sales and Services.

 

Also if necessary you will develop your skills for life to level 2 and complete Employment Rights and Responsibilities

 

On completion of your Advanced Hairdressing Apprenticeship you will have the skills to be an excellent hairdresser.
