Beauty Therapy

Beauty therapy offers an exciting, constantly changing challenging career. It provides you with a foundation of professional beauty therapy skills to prepare you for the international world of beauty.


Those who venture along this stimulating and rewarding career path will find new opportunities, flexibility, excitement and the opportunity to travel.

 

The beauty industry is constantly changing with new products, new technologies and new techniques. The demand for highly qualified therapists is growing all over the world.

 

You can come along to taster days to find out if beauty therapy is a profession you wish to pursue and get advice from our tutors to help you decide. Most of your practical training will take place in a beauty salon where you will be employed, supported with weekly day release at our training salon in Chester le Street. You will have a structured training plan and an assessor to help you meet targets suitable to your pace and level of ability. You will work on “real clients”, to develop your practical and communication skills.


 

Entry requirements

Formal qualifications are not normally stipulated by employers for this apprenticeship. However, practical skills, a high standard of personal presentation and the ability to communicate well with people are important skills to be a successful beauty therapist.

 

To be successful, you will need plenty of energy and enthusiasm in this fast moving profession. We expect a high level of commitment from you, good attendance, dedication and good time keeping.

 

Apprenticeships (NVQ level 2)

You will learn how to maintain facial skin conditions, waxing to remove hair and provide manicure and pedicure treatments. Skills in providing eyebrow and eyelash treatments will be developed along with your communication skills. By working with clients and other staff, you will learn how to maintain your effectiveness in the workplace.

 

To enhance your skills for life, if necessary you will improve on your numeracy and communication skills.

 

We are committed to ensuring you are successful in achieving your Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship and providing you have demonstrated dedication and commitment during your apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to progress onto  The Advanced Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship.

 

Advanced Apprenticeships (NVQ level 3)

By enhancing your Beauty Therapy skills to advanced level, you will learn how to remove hair using various treatments and improve skin condition using electro therapy. Your skills in body massage will be developed and you can choose from the many optional units to advance your skills.

 

You will also develop an understanding of Employment Rights & Responsibilities.

 

Career Progression

On completion of your Advanced Apprenticeship you could apply to work in a variety of
different fields:

  • Health & beauty salons, leisure center’s, sports clubs, hotels, luxury cruise ships

  • Running your own beauty salon

  • Working in health farms or day spas

  • Marketing beauty products and equipment, sales or retailing

  • Working for a manufacturer demonstrating new product ranges or new beauty equipment

  • Teaching others your skills in Beauty Therapy

Further Qualifications

You can build on your beauty therapy technical skills by taking further qualifications for example:

  • Management or Business skills

  • Spa therapy and nail services

  • Salon management level 4

  • Higher National Certificate or Diploma (HNC/D)

  • Foundation degree or Honours degree.
